Most of Sri Lanka
The ultimate round-island journey — from the Sigiriya Lion Rock and the ancient cities of the Cultural Triangle to misty tea country, the scenic Ella train, a Yala leopard safari, whale watching off the south coast and historic Galle, all in 15 unforgettable days.
Most of Sri Lanka is a 14-night, 15-day grand round tour that takes you to most of the island’s greatest attractions — the Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century AD, the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy, Horton Plains National Park, the green hill town of Ella, a thrilling jeep safari in Yala (home to the world’s highest density of leopards), a whale-watching boat trip off Mirissa and a city tour in Colombo.
Our representative meets you at Bandaranaike International Airport and escorts you to the nearby coastal town of Negombo. Relax for the rest of the day after your long flight, or head out in the evening to enjoy the lively Negombo tourist area.
After breakfast, make your way to the Ancient City of Anuradhapura, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to explore the monumental ruins of palaces, gardens, Buddhist temples and monasteries. Alternatively, enjoy a guided jeep safari in Wilpattu National Park.
Continue exploring Anuradhapura in the morning, then proceed to Sigiriya. Visit the UNESCO-listed Lion Rock Fortress, a remarkable rock citadel built by King Kasyapa, and climb to the summit. An optional visit to the neighbouring Pidurangala Rock can be arranged.
Head to the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa and the Gal Vihara complex, observing the monumental ruins of the fabulous garden city created by King Parakramabahu. Optional add-ons include a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park or a traditional village tour in Sigiriya.
After breakfast, visit the Golden Cave Temple in Dambulla, then continue to Kandy to pay your respects at the revered Temple of the Tooth Relic, where the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha is enshrined. Visit Kandy Lake and a scenic Kandy viewpoint. The rest of the day is yours.
Journey to Nuwara Eliya, the highest city in Sri Lanka. En route, stop at the beautiful Ramboda Waterfalls and visit a working tea plantation and factory where some of the finest tea in the world is produced. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Set off early for Horton Plains National Park, where a roughly 5 km trek winds through a picturesque landscape to World’s End. Afterwards, enjoy a city tour around the charming town of Nuwara Eliya and a relaxed visit to Gregory Lake.
Board a local train at Nanu Oya railway station and take the famously scenic route through tea-clad mountains to Ella, where your driver will meet you at the station. In the afternoon, visit the iconic Nine Arch Bridge and enjoy the relaxed charm of Ella town.
After breakfast, hike up Little Adam’s Peak for sweeping valley views in an area renowned for its fresh mountain air. Add an optional half-kilometre zip line adventure for a shot of adrenaline. Spend the rest of the day at leisure and enjoy the evening in lively Ella town.
Proceed to Yala National Park for an afternoon guided jeep safari. Yala holds the highest density of leopards in the world, and you may also spot elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer and more than 225 recorded bird species.
After breakfast, travel to Galle, the major city of the south coast. Explore the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort and browse the Dutch Hospital shopping complex — a great place to pick up souvenirs — before settling into Unawatuna.
Keep your day free in Unawatuna. Enjoy the famous golden beach with surfing, snorkelling or simply sunbathing on the sand. In the evening, soak up the relaxed atmosphere of the beach bars and night activities.
Enjoy a scenic boat ride along the Madu River through lush mangrove forest, then visit a Turtle Hatchery, a prime turtle nesting site. Spend the rest of the day near Hikkaduwa beach. An optional whale-watching tour can also be arranged.
Proceed to Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka, for a city tour around the bustling shopping district and a visit to the beautiful Gangarama Temple. The rest of the day is yours to explore at your own pace.
After breakfast at your hotel, transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport in time to connect with your departure flight. Not quite ready to leave? We can help you extend your stay and arrange additional travel so your Sri Lankan adventure continues.
